ATCC’s Sequencing and Bioinformatics Center is continuing to expand and is looking for a new remote Bioinformatician to join their team. The Bioinformatician is responsible for using bioinformatics tools to process, analyze, and interpret biological ‘omics data and NGS. They will support both internal ATCC teams and external client bioinformatics needs. The Bioinformatician will help visualize and present complex data and will contribute to the development and content of the ATCC Genome Portal spanning a wide range of microbial data. . . . . Responsibilities. . • Run and assist in writing and custom bioinformatics scripts using existing published tools and occasionally tools developed for purpose, summarize the results in a digestible manner and deliver the information using established reporting procedures. • Leverage current ML/AI data science techniques to enhance analysis and expand team expertise having a familiarity with ML libraries (e.g. Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, . PyTorch. , Biopython) as well as biological models (e.g. DNA/ProteinBERT).• Support staff with writing, maintaining, and improving production scripts which automate processes and analyses related to NGS.• Support the publication of WGS and varied data types to the ATCC Genome Portal by continuous development of routine data management and processing to ensure timely processing and adhering to defined quality assurance criteria.• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research and development projects supporting experimental design and data interpretation. Utilize data visualization methods to effectively communicate complex biological data insights.• Work within departmental code style guidelines while also contributing to their evolution and participate in regularly scheduled code reviews to ensure code quality.. . Qualifications. . The expected . salary. range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program. . . . . . . Education and Experience:. . . Bachelor's degree and 2-5 years' experience or equivalent experience.. . Master’s degree 0-3 years of relevant experience.. . Degrees should be in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, or Computational Biology and similar fields.. . . Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:. . . Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases such as BLAST, Ensembl, and UCSC Genome Browser.. . Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like AWS or Google Cloud for bioinformatics applications.. . Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, R, or Perl.. . Ability to create various types of visualizations, including line plots, bar charts, histograms, scatter plots, and heat maps, to represent data trends, distributions, and correlations.. . Strong understanding of next-generation sequencing (NGS).. . Good interpersonal and communication skills.. . . Preferred Qualification:. . . Experience with tools and libraries such as RShiny, RMarkdown, Python, Jupyter Notebooks, and ggplot2 for creating interactive and static visualizations.. .
