We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Senior Data Scientist to join our software engineering team as we build AI/ML capabilities directly into our platform. This is a unique role where you'll be embedded with software engineers rather than in a traditional data science organization. You'll report to an Engineering Manager and work directly with software engineers, translating data science concepts into practical features that can be implemented. As the data science expert on a team eager to learn, you'll own the full lifecycle from data analysis to production model deployment while teaching and enabling your colleagues.. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in driving data-driven decision-making across our organization, with a strong focus on optimizing our customers' supply chains. You will leverage your expertise in both data analysis and data science to. develop and implement innovative solutions that enhance our operational efficiency and empower our customers with strategic insights and recommendations. You'll work on areas such as demand forecasting, delivery date estimation, pricing analytics, and network simulations, with the opportunity to drive new products forward and meaningfully contribute to making Stord an even more data-driven organization.. What You'll Do. Data Analysis & Problem Solving:. Conduct thorough exploratory data analysis to validate assumptions and uncover insights. Identify and resolve data quality issues before they impact model development. Provide clear, actionable recommendations based on data findings. Answer specific business questions with data-driven analysis. Model Development & Implementation:. Build predictive models for supply chain optimization (delivery time estimation, demand forecasting, routing. optimization). Create production-ready code that integrates seamlessly with existing services. Work with engineers to deploy models as microservices or API endpoints. Monitor and improve model performance in production. Technical Translation & Education:. Translate complex data science concepts into terms that engineers and product managers understand. Educate the team on relevant statistical methods and ML approaches. Document technical decisions in ways accessible to non-data scientists. Bridge the gap between product requirements and data science possibilities. Collaborative Development:. Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies. Pair program with software engineers on feature implementation. Review code and provide feedback on data-related implementations. Contribute to architectural decisions for AI/ML features. What You'll Need. Expert-level Python programming with production code experience. Strong SQL skills with Postgres and BigQuery experience. Deep understanding of statistical analysis and machine learning fundamentals. Experience with Git/GitHub and collaborative development workflows. Proven ability to deploy models to production environments. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). Exceptional communication skills - ability to explain complex concepts simply. Teaching mindset - comfort with educating non-data scientists. Pragmatic approach - focuses on solving problems, not just building models. Self-directed - can identify what needs to be done without detailed specifications. Collaborative spirit - enjoys working closely with software engineers and product managers. Bonus Points. Experience with Elixir, Typescript and functional programming. Knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Experience with Datadog or similar monitoring tools. Background in logistics, supply chain, or e-commerce domains. Experience building APIs or micro services. Experience with real-time model serving.
