Astralis Foundation. . Since 2024, we've directed >$30M toward AI safety — and now we plan to scale our team of 5 FTE rapidly to deploy significantly more in 2026. As our first dedicated people leader, you'll build the foundations of our people systems, enabling us to scale from a small team into our next phase of growth.. The position is remote, with team members based in London, Stockholm, Vienna, San Francisco, and New York. This is a full-time position, starting as soon as possible.. We expect a significant influx of funding for secure and beneficial AI this year. Our donors want us to be ambitious, and we plan to grow money moved 2-4x this year, while doubling the team, to create a significant impact and help the ecosystem navigate a pivotal time.. About the role. As our Head of People Operations, you’ll be a close partner to the leadership team. You’ll work directly with our COO (Kathryn) and CEO (Jona), with day-to-day collaboration and support from Kathryn. Kathryn values thoughtful judgment and believes the best outcomes come from tackling problems together while giving people real ownership.. This is a role for someone who enjoys building clear, practical ways of operating from a blank page. Goals for 2026. We are currently a team of 5 FTEs and plan to double the team size this year. If you started today, your top priorities would be:. Owning hiring and onboarding end-to-end, making hiring easier and more effective for everyone involved while attracting world class talent. This includes:. attracting and closing exceptional talent. ensuring a strong candidate experience that reflects our values. making the process easier for hiring managers, creating onboarding that helps new hires hit the ground running.. Making sure the core people operations run smoothly. This includes:. contract setup and review. payroll and benefits. ensuring sensitive matters are handled thoughtfully and fairly.. Setting direction for people systems as we scale.. . While the early focus will be on hiring and operational stability, you’ll also begin shaping what comes next. The aim isn’t to build everything at once, but to make thoughtful early decisions that won’t need to be unwound later. This includes:. setting direction on compensation practices. performance and feedback. ensuring we intentionally support culture and engagement.. About you. We're looking for people with both practical HR/People Ops expertise and the strategic thinking required to build systems from scratch.. 5+ years at least, ideally 10+ years, of People Operations, HR, or Talent Acquisition experience, ideally including at least 2 years where you owned end-to-end processes. Demonstrated ability to manage full-cycle recruiting for professional roles, with evidence of excellent hiring outcomes. Experience building or significantly improving people systems in a fast-growing organization (startup, scale-up, or rapidly expanding nonprofit) or a relevant peer organization such as a large, impact-focused foundation. Working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance in at least one jurisdiction; ability to quickly learn others. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple hiring processes and projects simultaneously. Personnel management experience. Interest in AI Safety. Swedish operations experience is a nice-to-have.. Location, Compensation, and Benefits. Location:. . You will likely need to travel approximately 6 weeks per year for team retreats, conferences, meetings, etc.. While this is a Manager-level role today, there’s meaningful room for it to grow in scope over time - including Director-level responsibilities - as the foundations you build take hold and the team continues to scale.. Compensation. San Francisco / New York / London: $140,000 - $185,000. Compensation is adjusted based on location to ensure fair and competitive pay across different markets.
