Technical Product Manager at Top Hat. Remote Location: Canada. As an Intermediate Technical Product Manager at Top Hat, you’ll help shape the future of classroom engagement. You’ll design, experiment, and deliver experiences that make learning more interactive, measurable, and inspiring for both instructors and students. You’ll move fast — testing ideas, validating assumptions through lightweight experiments, and working hand-in-hand with engineers and designers to bring the best solutions to life. You’ll also explore how emerging technologies, including AI, can enhance the live classroom experience and deepen our understanding of student engagement.. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for a technically fluent PM who loves to learn, iterate, and see ideas turn into features that instructors can’t imagine teaching without.. You’ll take ownership of initiatives that strengthen Top Hat’s position as the leader in classroom engagement. For example:. Evolving lecture insights infrastructure: Work with engineering and data teams to improve how we capture and surface engagement signals. You’ll ensure instructors get meaningful, timely insights into participation and understanding — and experiment with AI to help generate predictive or real-time feedback on student engagement.. Modernizing the live classroom experience: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to make in-class participation smoother, faster, and more dynamic. You’ll explore how generative AI can help instructors adapt content using just-in-time actions — for example, by suggesting tailored questions, summarizing live discussions, or generating quick feedback prompts that keep students actively involved.. Each project will challenge you to balance experimentation, technical depth, and user empathy — while delivering tangible improvements that instructors and students feel in every class.. You will:. Define and deliver value: Translate instructor and student needs into clear outcomes, measurable goals, and product hypotheses that guide your roadmap. Run rapid experiments: Curate small, focused experiments to de-risk ideas early and validate customer value before scaling features. Collaborate closely with engineering and design: Co-plan with engineering managers on technical feasibility and sequencing; partner with design to ensure delightful, accessible experiences. Leverage data and AI: Use analytics and emerging AI technologies to uncover insights, automate workflows, and enhance engagement in the live classroom. Deliver and iterate with care: Manage the end-to-end delivery of features — from defining requirements and success metrics through to launch, measurement, and iteration. Communicate context: Keep stakeholders aligned through clear storytelling, documentation, and demos that connect technical details to customer outcomes. You are:. 3–5 years of product management experience, ideally in a SaaS or platform environment. A technical foundation — you’re comfortable discussing APIs, data flows, or system trade-offs with engineers, even if you’re not writing code daily. A data-informed mindset — you know how to ask the right questions, analyze data directly, write SQL to gather your own insights, and build or refine dashboards in BI tools (e.g. Looker, Quick Suite, or similar) to inform decisions. Experience running experiments — whether A/B tests, prototypes, or lightweight validation approaches — and using the results to guide decisions. Interest in AI technologies — you stay curious about new tools and look for practical ways to apply GenAI in product discovery, analysis, or feature design. Excellent communication and collaboration skills — you bring people along with context, clarity, and a shared sense of purpose. A growth mindset — you learn fast, adapt quickly, and see challenges as opportunities to improve both the product and your craft. Nice to have:. Experience working in edtech or building products for educators or learners. Exposure to real-time systems, data pipelines, or event-driven architectures. Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks or analytics platforms (e.g., Amplitude, Mixpanel, or similar). Interest in generative AI applications for content, engagement, or workflow optimization.. Previous collaboration with remote or distributed teams. Why team members love working at Top Hat:. A noble mission that creates meaningful, fulfilling work.
