The ideal candidate is a pragmatic, quality-minded PHP engineer who thrives in complex codebases, takes ownership of real problems, and cares about leaving things better than they found them. This is a highly visible role in a high-growth technology company, which will require strong API design instincts, comfort navigating a mature monolithic architecture, and the discipline to balance feature delivery with long-term technical health. Design and build reliable, well-documented RESTful APIs consumed by internal teams and external customers at scale. Navigate and extend a large, mature PHP monolith… understanding existing patterns, respecting stability, and improving incrementally. Identify and address technical debt in a principled way, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term maintainability. Integrate and maintain third-party SDKs and external services, ensuring reliability, error handling, and graceful degradation. Write clean, testable code that meets and elevates team coding standards… leaving every surface better than you found it. Collaborate closely with engineering peers and leads to review code, share context, and raise the technical bar across the team. Debug and resolve production issues across a complex, interconnected system… quickly, thoroughly, and with clear communication. Contribute to architectural discussions and help evaluate technical tradeoffs as systems evolve.  . Qualifications. 3+ years of professional PHP development experience in a production environment. Demonstrated experience designing and building RESTful APIs… versioning, authentication, error handling, and documentation. Strong MySQL skills - schema design, query optimization, and understanding of indexing and performance at scale. Experience working within large, legacy codebases… comfortable reading unfamiliar code and making safe, targeted changes. Familiarity with third-party SDK integration patterns and handling upstream service failures gracefully. Understanding of SOLID software engineering principles, testing strategies, and code review practices. Experience with Git-based workflows and collaborative development in a team environment. Cloud infrastructure exposure is a plus.  . Compensation. $80,000 - $95,000. Final compensation will vary depending on years of experience, background/skill set, location, and applicable laws.  .
