Engineering Manager at Smalls. Remote Location: Remote US. Smalls are looking for an Engineering Manager who is equally passionate about leading people and building great software. In this role, you’ll be both a mentor and a maker—helping your team grow, shaping the culture of engineering, and directly contributing to the architecture and code that power our systems.. What You'll Do:. Lead, mentor, hire and grow a small team of software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, growth and learning.. Partner with product and design to align engineering priorities with business goals.. Define and evolve a technical roadmap with the ability to articulate why to the business.. Evaluate our current architecture, system design, tools and influence the set-up for the next stage of growth for the organization.. Ensure reliability, scalability, and performance monitoring.. Contribute directly to the codebase (~60% of your time), setting the standard for quality and craftsmanship.. Establish team rituals - reviews, refinement, incident management, on-call duty, retros—that make us stronger and faster together.. What we'll love about you:. 2+ years of engineering leadership/management experience.. Prior experience working as a Sr. Engineer/Staff engineer with deep technical expertise and architectural experience.. A player-coach: skilled at balancing IC work with leadership responsibilities.. Experienced in building strong engineering cultures and improving teams.. Strong communicator who can bridge technical and business discussions.. Pragmatic and product-driven—you know when to move fast and when to build for the long term.. Huge plus: experience working on DTC and subscription services..
