Or our infrastructure getting so complicated early on that backend engineers are unable to dive in and assist in case of issues (on-call).. However, we are looking for someone to obsess over how we can scale, reduce latency and maintain world-class uptime. Spearheading those efforts standalone, but in close collaboration with backend engineers across the team and designed to ensure the full team is familiar with our infrastructure and can contribute.. Staff Infrastructure Engineer. to design, build, and operate the foundation that powers Polar. From payments orchestration to global payouts, our systems demand world-class availability, reliability, and trust. You’ll set the technical direction for our infrastructure and lead by doing; hands-on in code, but also raising the bar for the whole team.. Own the end-to-end architecture, implementation and maintenance of our infrastructure: design, deployment, scaling, observability, and security. Define standards and best practices for infrastructure across the engineering team. Lead reliability engineering practices: SLOs, on-call, incident response, and postmortems. Drive world-class observability: metrics, tracing, logging, and alerting. Build and evolve CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling to maximize velocity without compromising reliability. Continuously improve security, compliance, and data protection across production systems. Work with engineering team to design scalable, resilient systems for billing and financial operations. Mentor and level up backend engineers to contribute confidently to infrastructure and during on-call rotations. What we're looking for. 8+ years of experience in infrastructure, SRE, or backend engineering roles. Comfortable as the first dedicated infra hire. Setting technical direction while executing hands-on. Proven track record designing and operating infrastructure for high-availability, high-security, mission-critical systems. Deep experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or similar) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Pulumi, etc.). Strong background in observability, reliability, and incident management. Collaborative by default. You design systems so others can contribute and maintain them, not just you. Excellent communicator and technical leader.
