This entails collaborating with senior editors, corresponding with authors to implement changes, and addressing any issues that arise during the editorial process. Include, but are not limited to:. . . Conduct first-round edits on about half of all web stories, which are generally under 1,500 words. Editing is done for style and substance—clarity and economy, but also accuracy and argumentative rigor.. . Handle fact-checking of stories, including between 1 and 4 investigative reporting pieces per week. Fact-checking entails ensuring that every claim in the piece, no matter how minor, is accurate and supported by evidence.. . Shepherd web stories to publication: Discuss the article with senior editors, correspond with authors about changes, and resolve any issues that arise throughout the editorial process. . Conduct first-round edits on several print pieces per quarterly period: Typically edit one or two print pieces per week, on top of ordinary web responsibilities; these tend to be feature length (approx. 3,000 words). . Participate in quarterly print production cycle: Discuss the developing issue; provide input on photo selections; contribute to headlines, subheads, and image captions; and read final proofs. . Commission and evaluate submissions for both web and print publication: Contacting new writers and maintaining an existing network of contributors. . . Qualifications . . . 2-5 years of relevant experience in media and publishing, including experience in fact-checking.. . College degree in relevant field.. . Outstanding writing skills.. . The ability to manage multiple projects and meet assignment deadlines in a busy environment.. . Exceptional attention to detail and organizational capability.. . Excellent verbal communication skills, both in person and remotely.. . Strong interpersonal skills and ability to act as an ambassador for MI with leading public policy experts and elected officials.. . .
