At Climate X, we’re building global-scale models to assess the physical risks of climate change. We combine observation data and model outputs at both local and global scales to project physical impacts of climate change, such as floods, subsidence, storms, droughts, and wildfires. You will be a key contributor to the development, calibration and validation of loss models that support our mission to help clients assess and manage climate risks. We’re seeking an enthusiastic and capable climate scientist with expertise in the modelling of (extra-) tropical cyclones to join the team and support the continual development of our internal hazard models and asses the impact of climate change on the risk posed by these perils. This role is focused on the continual support and development of our storm based hazard models (currently tropical cyclones and European extra-tropical cyclones).. . . Undertake cutting-edge scientific model development by leading the refinement of our storm models based on scientific research, developing and updating tropical and extratropical cyclone hazard models.. . Lead robust model evaluation and verification work to evaluate the model outputs and document models for internal and external communication for banking clients.. . Disseminate scientific insights and methods to engage with stakeholders, customers, the scientific community - representing the team at international conferences and industry events.. . Collaborate across scientific and technical domains through working with other climate and geospatial scientists co-develop integrated storm risk (hazard and loss) models. . . What You’ll Gain. . . Hands-on experience in production-grade software development.. . .  . . ESSENTIAL SKILLS. . . PhD or equivalent experience in climate science, hazard modelling or statistical analysis.. . Experience leveraging scientific computing techniques using Python in a cloud/remote environment.. . Strong communication skills with ability to explain complex concepts to a non-technical audience.. . A desire to use scientific expertise to drive real-world impact by understanding client and product needs, and work under tight deadlines to enhance our customer offering.. . . DESIRABLE SKILLS. . Experience in any one of these areas makes you stand out but are not required for the role and if you are passionate and interested in the role we encourage you to apply!. . . Experience researching (extra) tropical cyclone impacts and risk.. . Experience working with catastrophe or impact models, particularly for wind-based perils.. . Experience with Extreme Value Theory or computer vision machine learning.. . .  . .
