Responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting operations, overseeing the month-end financial close process, establishing and maintaining internal controls, reviewing monthly reconciliations and compiling and analyzing data to be used in the accounting, regulatory reporting and financial reporting functions of the Credit Union.  . This role requires multi-functional collaboration with other business leaders to resolve issues, implement and lead organizational initiatives; establish policies and procedures; and implement process changes to ensure the Credit Union operates efficiently, remains financially sound and adheres to relevant regulatory and GAAP requirements.  . .  . . Leading activities related to the month-end closing process, including journal entries, fixed assets, prepaids, and variance explanations..  . . . . Managing the accounting for the Credit Union’s investment and derivatives portfolios.  . . . . Oversees accounts payable operations and ensures the Credit Union is meeting its obligations through effective vendor management, internal control structure, and adherence to the Credit Union’s policies and procedures..  . . . . Generates financial statement and budget variance reports.  . . . . Ensures accurate preparation and timely submission of regulatory reports including Call Report (Form 5300), Report of Transaction Accounts, Other Deposits and Vault Cash (FR 2900), and US Census Surveys.  . . . . Leads and mentors Accounting personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.  Fosters a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.  Conducts meetings as necessary.  . . . . Responsible for proper structuring, maintenance, and reconciliation of all General Ledger accounts.  .  . . . . Assists with the annual budget process and leads the budget review meetings with various organizational leaders.  . . . . Directs the development, enhancement and implementation of accounting policies, controls, procedures, and processes designed to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulation while also promoting operational efficiency..  . . . . Responsible for researching compliance with new and existing technical accounting issues.  This includes evaluating the applicability and impact of changes in accounting pronouncements and, when applicable, assisting in the implementation efforts of new accounting pronouncements..  . . . . Compiles and analyzes financial information to support the Controller, Senior Managers and Board of Directors in making operational and strategic decisions.  Coordinates data gathering with other departments as needed..  . . . . Ensures all accounting activities are in conformance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable laws, regulations and Credit Union policies/procedures.  .  . . . . Maintains the financial records of, and produces financial statements for, the Credit Union of Colorado Foundation..  . . . . Utilizes spreadsheets and other systems (data warehouse) to improve efficiency and effectiveness.  Works with Controller to identify and implement process improvements.  .  . . . . Assists with departmental and organizational projects as directed by the Controller..  . . . . Develops an overall understanding of the strategic and tactical operations of the Credit Union.  This includes understanding the needs of members, employees and the Credit Union.  .  . . . .
