We're looking for a creative, thoughtful and pragmatic Director of Product Design to shape the future of the software experiences we build for our clients. Be a creative source of inspiration when we are in the early stages of client courtship. . . . Strategic Design Leadership:. . . Shape and drive end-to-end design strategy for complex software products, including mobile apps, web apps, etc., from discovery through delivery. . . Champion a user-centered approach by integrating research, data, and user feedback throughout the engagement. . . Stay at the forefront of design and technology trends, identifying opportunities to evolve our offerings, including the responsible use of AI in design.. . . Team Leadership & Development:. . . Manage and mentor a team of UX/UI designers across the United States. . . Conduct performance reviews, professional development plans, and revise competency matrices to demonstrate clear progression paths and promotions for designers. . . Recommend new talent needed for the team and establish a freelance network for specialized work (e.g., prototyping, decks, presentations). . . Build deep partnerships with engineering and market research teams to create a cohesive, end-to-end product experience, ensuring all disciplines are engaged from strategy through execution, not just at the handoff point.. . . Practice Operations:. . . Establish scalable design systems and best practices across mobile, web, and enterprise platforms. . . Lead design reviews, demos, and ensure the work leads to meaningful business results that we can showcase to future clients through case studies. . . Contribute as a senior IC when necessary during project spikes or situations where your expertise is needed.. . . Client Engagement & Business Growth:. . . Build trust with enterprise decision-makers through design leadership. . . Participate in planning sessions, quarterly business reviews, and new opportunity development with both existing and new clients. . . Collaborate with sales to scope new design work and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling. . . Stay focused on the strategic and creative narratives that sell work to new clients. . . As needed, hire freelancers or contractors to create artifacts for new businesses, such as PowerPoint decks, demos, or other visual demonstrations.. . . . . Intimate, Working Familiarity With:. . . Mobile, web, and enterprise platforms (must showcase how you have led work that starts at a blank canvas and ends up as a shipped project). . . Figma, design systems, and component libraries. . . Apple HIG, Material Design, and enterprise UX best practices. . . Rapid prototyping and user testing tools. . . The agile process for software product development. . . Selling design work to clients.. . . General Requirements:. . . 10+ years of experience designing digital products that earn the respect of clients.. . A decade or more of leadership experience - you’ve built teams rooted in trust, integrity, clarity and kindness.. . A portfolio of work you can share with our current UX/UI design team early in the interview process. . . Experience in consumer tech, retail, foodservice or B2B services-based businesses.. . Work experience building out a design practice that serves large clients - either at your firm, a smaller firm or a larger agency/consultancy. . . Preference for working in a services-based business vs. a product company. . . Education/background in human-centered design, UX/UI, or product design. . . Expertise in accessible design principles and ADA compliance, including practical application of WCAG guidelines and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure inclusive digital experiences.. . Experience scaling design teams and systems in high-growth settings. . . An understanding of business KPIs.. . Bonus if you have N/NG certifications.. . A Bit More Info:. . Minimum Base Compensation: $185,000. . This is a full-time position. Stable Kernel operates a People Before Place Hybrid model, allowing most employees to choose where they can do their best work most days.. . This role is open to remote candidates, although periodic travel—approximately every 6–8 weeks—is expected for key in-person meetings, such as client meetings, leadership sessions, or team planning.
