The role of a Medical Editor is to ensure the highest degree of editorial quality, scientific accuracy and consistency in all project deliverables, provide Editorial assistance across departments where required, and support Product Quality & Compliance in driving excellence across the business.. . As part of this centralised team, you will include both ad-hoc editorial requests and ownership of deliverables for dedicated accounts, including pharma representative training, presentations for healthcare professionals, patient support materials, digital assets, films, and congress booths to name a few.. . You will report into the Senior Medical Editor.. . . What You'll Do. . Editorial Services. . Complete all editorial tasks to an excellent standard:. Copy edit: ensure linguistic accuracy, consistency and clarity following project briefs; work to/update style guides in light of any client/team preferences, including styling references and layout formatting where required. Proof review: cross-check work across different outputs, contexts and formats, collaborating with studio to ensure content is correct. Quality check: review copy for spelling, grammar, punctuation and overall sense. Fact check:. . verify scientific claims are substantiated within manuscripts, and that references are cited/marked up. Work with account teams to guarantee a wider understanding of the therapy/industry area and account is reflected in our quality process; provide a true 'value' for clients dates wherever possible. Begin to provide healthcare compliance support to team members; provide dedicated reviews and offer guidance around regulations and other codes where relevant. Represent the Editorial team outside of your account work; build relationships with teams across the business, providing account support. . Time Management . . Communicate with team members (and wider company) to manage workload – confirm timelines and scope to ensure project expectations are kept up to date. Promote the need to obtain clear briefs and scope of work from both clients and colleagues; start to build relationships with freelance. You will monitor your own capacity, planning. . around multiple delivery requirements and conflicting deadlines. Respond to excess workload, work with Operations to book and allocate freelance resource. Assist our teams in monitoring time on job; notify the team of scope creep; strengthen understanding in budget and timescales. Understand and use platforms and internal systems (e.g. Smartsheet). . What do you need to have …. . Experience editing in the medical communications, pharmaceutical or healthcare sector (minimum 1 year). Proficiency in multiple software including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe. Excellent written English, including knowledge of UK and US nuances. Be able to perform editorial tasks such as copy edits, proof reviews and quality checking; experience in fact checking is beneficial. Experience working across several accounts/projects whilst maintaining meticulous attention to detail. Knowledge of UK pharmaceutical regulations (such as the ABPI Code) and working within a communications agency would be advantageous.
