The HR Team at Actionstep plays a vital role in shaping the employee experience, fostering a positive workplace culture, and ensuring compliance across all human resources functions. Focused on supporting business goals, the Team delivers strategic and operational HR Services, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and learning and development.  The HR Team also drives key initiatives such as employee wellbeing, and workforce planning to enhance engagement and support employee growth.  . The HR Generalist will be instrumental in the team's mission, providing hands-on support across North America (focused primarily on Canada) and working collaboratively to implement HR best practices that align with Actionstep's values and growth objectives. . THE PURPOSE OF YOUR ROLE . The HR Generalist for Canada is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support across a range of functions, including employee relations, recruitment, performance management, onboarding, and offboarding.  This role will act as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, ensuring HR practices align with Actionstep’s policies and local regulations. Working closely with the SVP of HR, members of the HR team and regional stakeholders, the HR Generalist will deliver people-focused initiatives that support a positive, inclusive workplace culture and drive business outcomes across the Canadian teams. . WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING . In this role, you will… . Employee Relations & Support: . Serve as a first point of contact for employee queries, providing guidance on HR policies, workplace standards, and best practices. . Manage employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement plans, ensuring fair and compliant practices. . Support employees and managers in understanding and applying HR policies, benefits, and workplace procedures. . Assist in creating and maintaining HR policies in Canada.  . Foster a positive work environment through proactive employee engagement and support, promoting a collaborative and inclusive culture. . Provide counsel and assistance with Canadian payroll (including ROEs .  . Recruitment & Onboarding: . Coordinate the end-to-end recruitment process, from job posting and candidate screening to interview coordination and offer negotiation. . Collaborate with hiring managers to understand talent needs, assisting with developing role requirements and recruitment strategies. . Oversee the HR onboarding process for new employees, ensuring a smooth and welcoming transition into the organisation, including conducting orientation sessions and completing required documentation. . Performance Management & Development: . Support the performance review process, coaching managers on setting goals, providing feedback, and managing performance issues effectively. . Advise on employee development plans, career progression, and succession planning to ensure alignment with both individual and business growth objectives. . Identify and implement training and development opportunities that align with employee needs and organisational priorities. . Offboarding: . Manage the offboarding process for departing employees, ensuring a smooth transition that respects the employee’s contributions and maintains organizational security. . Conduct exit interviews, gathering feedback to identify areas for improvement and sharing insights with HR leadership. . Coordinate HR offboarding tasks, maintaining compliance with exit requirements. . Provide support to managers and teams during transitions, ensuring minimal disruption to workflows and maintaining a positive organisational culture. . Compliance & Policy Management: . Ensure HR policies, practices, and procedures are compliant with local employment laws and regulatory requirements across Canada. . Monitor and assist HR leadership in updating employee handbooks and other HR documentation to reflect any legislative or organisational changes. . Conduct periodic audits of HR processes to ensure local compliance and mitigate potential risks. . Compensation & Benefits Administration: . Assist with salary reviews, benchmarking, and administration of compensation and benefits packages to ensure competitiveness and alignment with market standards. . Provide support to employees regarding benefit entitlements, leave balances, and payroll-related queries. . Collaborate with payroll teams to ensure accurate and timely processing of employee compensation, benefits, and other entitlements. . Relationship Management: . Build and maintain strong working relationships with all internal and external parties ensuring transparent, proactive and effective communication always. . Attend and proactively contribute to customer, partner and internal meetings with the view to add value in a constructive manner. . Professional Development: . Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of a strong department culture ensuring knowledge and experience is shared. . Experience & Qualifications: . Essential: . Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. . 3-5 years of experience in an HR generalist role within Canada (Ontario expertise preferred) . Strong knowledge of Canadian (Ontario) employment laws and regulations. . Proven experience in employee relations, performance management, recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding. . Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels. . Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. . Desirable: . Prior experience in a SaaS or software company, with a strong understanding of industry-specific HR challenges and dynamics. . Proficiency in HRIS and other HR-related software (Netsuite SuitePeople a plus.) . Personal Skills, Attributes & Behavioural Competencies: . Ability to work in both team and individual capacities. .
