General Summary and Essential Duties & Responsibilities:. The Senior Manufacturing Controller leads Spartech’s manufacturing accounting functions, including the monthly accounting close and costing processes within the company’s ERP environment. This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate, timely and insightful reporting of plant results, with a major focus on driving continuous improvement across both system-based and manual accounting close processes. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in manufacturing accounting, strong analytical capabilities, and a passion for streamlining workflows. This position is broad-ranging and plays a key role within the Finance organization, while being hands-on, with significant exposure to the Operations organization and wider Finance teams. Areas of impact include leading a team to develop, scale and automate accounting processes, systems, reports, and workflows. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and oversees a total team of three controllers / accountants. . Key Responsibilities:. . Lead the manufacturing accounting month-end close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting.. . Develop and implement process improvements to streamline month-end close activities, reducing cycle time and increasing efficiency. . Maintain and enhance ERP and financial systems to support automation, simplification and standardization of close processes.. . Review and analyze manufacturing spend and all plant variances, including labor, overhead, and material costs, and partner with the Operations and FP&A teams to provide actionable insights.. . Mentor and support junior accounting staff, fostering an environment of professional growth and development, continuous improvement and accountability. . Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, the wider Finance team and IT to identify and resolve bottlenecks in data flow and reporting. . Create a high performing culture focused on value creation, delivering results by helping the Operations teams to identify opportunities to improve costs or improve plant throughput rates. . Ensure compliance with internal controls, corporate policies, and external audit requirements.. . Assist CFO and Executive Team with ad-hoc projects as needed. . Required Skills/Experience:. . Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA and/or CMA a plus. . 10-12+ years of progressive accounting experience, Minimum of 7 years of experience in manufacturing accounting, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role. . Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting principles, inventory valuation, and production variances. . Proven track record of process improvement and system optimization in a manufacturing environment. . Willingness to travel to plants / meet with site leaders. . Proved track record in a remote environment. . Experience using financial systems, including skill with large-scale ERPs (SAP or comparable) platforms. . Strong communication skills and a proven ability to develop business partnerships supported by rapport and trust with stakeholders of all levels. . Must be an entrepreneurial self-starter, with the ability to challenge the status quo and drive a bias for action across the organization. . Team player with a collaborative approach, cooperative attitude, and ability to work across multiple departments. . Energized by working in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on meeting deadlines and addressing urgent situations. .
