This is a full-time, remote individual contributor role on the Communications Team that will report to our Head of Communications.. ABOUT US. As a growing multiracial and multigenerational community of donor organizers, we connect, grow, fund, and mobilize together in solidarity with movements to transform people, culture, and systems rooted in justice. We are a geographically distributed, remote team of 25 from a range of intersectional identities, including cisgender, BIPOC, and nonbinary people. We have a shared staffing structure across WDN and WDN Action, where our team dedicates a portion of their time to each organizational entity. ABOUT THE ROLE. The Communications Manager creates and manages communications content across digital channels (website, social media, member app and email newsletter) in alignment with WDN’s communications strategy. This role will drive communications projects and process implementations forward across the communications function, WDN and WDN Action. The Communications Manager must be an organized and impactful writer and communicator, with an exceptional talent for storytelling, copy editing and operating at the lowest level of detail. This person must have previous experience implementing a strategic communications plan and creating effective, engaging narratives that support strategic organizational goals. The Communications Manager must share our passion for social change and have a visionary spirit matched with a growth mindset and can-do attitude.. This position requires occasional travel within the United States for meetings, team retreats and organizational events. Candidates must be able to work weekday hours across US time zones, be available to work a flexible schedule due to the emergent and rapid response nature of our work, and should have previously demonstrated experience and comfort with remote work. We are open to individual candidates [no agencies] who are based in the United States and who have at least 6+ years of communications experience. . ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES. As WDN and WDN Action continues to operationalize our strategic plan, the Communications Manager will be focused on the following:. CONTENT STRATEGY. . Implement communications strategy across primary channels, including email, social media, websites, printed materials, and our member app. . . Design the organization’s content calendar in alignment with the organization’s strategic priorities, goals and programs. . . Draft, copy edit, and manage content across social media, digital platforms and our member app using our communications tech stack, including Mailchimp, Wordpress, Eventbrite, Add Event, Vimeo and Circle.. . Draft and edit communications collateral (newsletters, blog posts, websites, annual reports, etc.), campaigns, and other assets across mediums in partnership with members and vertical teams to capture stories of impact that support inspiring storytelling. . . Leverage communications platforms to increase organizational voice and brand awareness across key audiences.. . Conduct rigorous data analysis and create impact reports of communications campaigns and channels in alignment with the organization’s strategy and goals. . . PROJECT MANAGEMENT. . Lead and manage special communications projects from start to finish, ensuring timelines, budget, and project expectations are met. . . Develop and maintain our communications systems and infrastructure, streamlining content on Google Drive, our photo bank, and archives in partnership with the Head of Communications.. . Triage incoming communications, tasks, requests, inquiries, and invitations for the Communications Team based on urgency and importance.. . TEAM ENGAGEMENT . . Build and support a culture of collaboration, communication, excellence and accountability.. . Collaborate with cross-functional partners on annual planning, strategy, budgeting, and other relevant organization-wide initiatives.. . Participate in team meetings and projects, sharing insights, providing thoughtful feedback, and collaborating with colleagues to achieve shared goals.. . Follow organizational standards and ensure timely completion of responsibilities.. . Support onboarding and training of new team members, consultants, external partners and grantees.. . Contribute to organizational success by continuously learning about industry trends and best practices, updating practices and approaches.. . REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS. As a Communications Manager on the Communications Team at WDN/A, you must have:. . 6+ years of social justice philanthropy, nonprofit or political communications experience. . . A steadfast commitment to WDN/A’s mission, vision and values.. . Exceptional writing, presentation and communication skills, with the ability to communicate plainly and directly, with empathy and insight.. . Demonstrated track record in successfully managing and implementing communications strategy and content that speaks to, bridges and unites a dynamic audience.. . Understanding and fluency in the complexities of communicating with a dynamic community of multigenerational and multiracial audiences, including differences across race, age, power, privilege, access, ability, etc.. . Attuned to political landscape and current events with the ability to craft timely, written analysis that connects to and advances WDN/A’s strategic priorities. . . Demonstrated success leading well-organized, inclusive communications campaigns that inspire major gifts fundraising and increase our membership.. . Proficiency in Google Suite, Zoom, Slack and MacOS; experience with WDN/A’s communications tech stack (Mailchimp, WordPress) is strongly preferred.. . Outstanding project management, relationship building, public speaking and cross-functional collaboration skills.. . PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS. . Previous experience working on a Communications Team for a multi-entity organization, communicating across 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) work.. . Background in membership organizations. . .
