Optimization Engineer (Unreal Engine | Video Games). . Location: Remote (Canada). . Salary Range: CAD $92,500 – $107,500. . As a member of our studio's Engineering Team, you will work closely with Engineers, Designers, Artists, and Producers on the project. You’ll design and implement extensions to existing systems and develop pivotal new systems that support both our internal content creators and external development partners.. WHAT YOU’LL DO. • Design, author, and maintain robust and highly optimized systems that meet all design, technical, and schedule requirements. • Diagnose code paths consuming too many resources using performance analysis tools and optimize them. • Work closely with QA and technical leadership to ensure system stability and resolve defects. • Author, review, and provide feedback on technical and end-user documentation. • Collaborate with technical leads and fellow engineers on overall system architecture and design. • Take initiative on medium-impact tasks and work independently on low-risk items. • Support more junior staff with informal guidance and mentorship. • Help team members set up tools and troubleshoot minor tools issues and workflow blockers. WHAT YOU’LL BRING. . 5+ years of professional software development experience . . 2+ years of experience with Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) in a professional setting . . Proven experience working on gameplay systems and optimizing lower-level systems (e.g., Audio, Animation, Collision) . . Strong C++ skills with a deep understanding of performance considerations . . Demonstrated ability to create meaningful CPU performance gains, including modifying core Unreal Engine code when needed . . Comfortable navigating large codebases and unfamiliar systems . . Skilled at identifying and implementing optimization strategies across disciplines . . Able to scope medium-sized tasks and break down larger efforts into actionable steps . . Strong debugging skills and attention to detail . . Familiar with established coding standards and best practices . . Collaborative mindset with excellent cross-discipline communication skills . . Open to feedback and iteration in a team environment . . Clear and professional written and verbal communication . . Advanced knowledge of 3D math. . NICE TO HAVE. • AAA game development experience. • Console development experience. • Shipped at least one title.
