We are currently looking for a Data Governance Subject Matter Expert in Virginia (USA).. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Governance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to guide and shape data governance strategy within a regulated environment. In this role, you will assess the current state of data practices, design governance frameworks, and drive the implementation of standards that ensure data is well-classified, auditable, and compliant with external regulations. You will bridge business, regulatory, and technical teams, serving as a trusted advisor to leadership while advancing enterprise data governance capabilities. Accountabilities. ·         Lead a comprehensive assessment of current data governance practices, identifying gaps and opportunities.. ·         Develop and implement policies covering data quality, retention, privacy, classification, and access control.. ·         Define data stewardship roles, responsibilities, and operational models across the organization.. ·         Establish metadata standards and support the development of data catalogs.. ·         Align governance frameworks with external regulatory requirements (such as SOX and SEC oversight).. ·         Support the validation of governance use cases and prototypes to ensure feasibility and business value.. ·         Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure governance initiatives are practical, scalable, and sustainable.. ·         US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.. ·         8+ years of experience in data governance, preferably in financial, audit, or other compliance-driven environments.. ·         Strong track record developing and deploying enterprise data governance programs.. ·         Proficiency in metadata management tools, practices, and governance frameworks.. ·         Ability to interpret and align business, technical, and regulatory perspectives.. ·         Certification such as DAMA CDMP or equivalent (strongly preferred).. ·         Bonus: Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audit requirements, FedRAMP/FISMA controls, and Agile/Scrum methodologies.. .
