This leadership role is responsible for building and guiding teams that integrate risk, security, and privacy into technology platforms and business processes. The Director of Risk Engineering will design and implement scalable technical controls, automation pipelines, and engineering solutions to manage risk while supporting innovation and operational efficiency. This position involves influencing engineering practices across the organization, setting standards for secure and private-by-design systems, and collaborating with multiple teams to ensure alignment with enterprise risk goals. Candidates will lead high-performing teams, drive measurable improvements in risk posture, and act as a key technical and strategic partner across the business. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient systems in a fast-growing, cloud-based environment.. . Accountabilities. . Develop and execute the engineering strategy for preventative and detective risk controls, including automation, telemetry, and response mechanisms.. . Lead enterprise initiatives to reduce security and privacy debt, minimize exposure, and enhance observability of risk.. . Design, standardize, and maintain scalable controls for data protection, identity management, infrastructure integrity, and secrets management.. . Build and oversee infrastructure for threat detection, alerting, automated remediation, and control monitoring.. . Serve as a technical stakeholder in architecture reviews, threat modeling, and platform design to embed security and privacy from the start.. . Lead, mentor, and grow teams of engineers and managers to foster a high-performance culture focused on clarity, ownership, and continuous improvement.. . Collaborate cross-functionally to align technical solutions with risk strategy and business priorities.. . Use engineering metrics to identify systemic risks, track control adoption, and inform leadership of risk posture.. . . Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or related field; Master’s preferred.. . Relevant certifications such as GCSA, GSOM, CISA, or CISM strongly preferred.. . 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, with leadership of multiple technical teams.. . 10+ years of experience in information security, cybersecurity, or risk engineering.. . Hands-on experience with cybersecurity tools, software engineering, or system administration preferred.. . Experience with large-scale virtualized or containerized cloud environments.. . Demonstrated program management skills, including strategy contribution, budgeting, capacity planning, and reporting.. . Strong communication and relationship-building skills with technical and business stakeholders.. . Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical requirements; provide technical oversight without delegating responsibility.. . Expertise in systems hardening, security concepts, and technical controls in highly regulated environments.. .
