The Principal AV Behavior and AI Safety Engineer will serve as a technical leader in autonomous vehicle (AV) behavior and AI safety, guiding the development, validation, and deployment of AI/ML-driven systems. This role combines deep expertise in machine learning, AI safety standards, and autonomous vehicle development to ensure safe, reliable, and scalable AV solutions. You will lead cross-functional teams in defining safety strategies, implementing robust validation processes, and applying industry standards to AI/ML models across L4 autonomous features. The position offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge AV technologies, influence safety protocols, and mentor engineers while collaborating closely with partners and stakeholders. Develop and implement AI/ML safety strategies referencing ISO 8800, ISO 21448, and AV industry best practices.. Lead the end-to-end validation of autonomous vehicle behaviors and AI systems across simulations, closed courses, and public roads.. Collaborate with software, data science, and systems engineering teams to ensure safe model training, deployment, and continuous performance improvement.. Establish assurance processes to validate launch targets for vehicle behaviors and operational design domains.. Set technical standards for prototyping, testing, and deploying new AI solutions, including generative AI.. Provide guidance and mentorship to AI/ML developers and cross-functional engineering teams.. . Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.. 7+ years of experience in machine learning, AI safety, autonomous vehicle, or robotics development.. Extensive knowledge of AI/ML safety standards and validation techniques for autonomous systems (ISO 8800, ISO 21448).. Hands-on expertise with Python, R, Java, PyTorch, TensorFlow, PySpark, Scikit-learn, LangChain, SQL.. Experience with AI/ML techniques including LLMs, Generative AI, RAG, deep learning, reinforcement learning, NLP, SVM, XGBoost, Random Forest, and decision trees.. Familiarity with cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure preferred; AWS or Google Cloud a plus) and deployment/MLOps tools such as MLflow, Docker, and Kubernetes..
