As Director of Engineering in the Office of the CTO, you’ll serve as a senior engineering partner to the CTO—helping to accelerate technical initiatives, shape architecture, solve high-priority challenges, and deliver mission-critical solutions. This is not a traditional people-management role. Instead, you’ll lead by example through code, architecture, and strategic execution. You'll work cross-functionally across teams and domains, drive technical alignment, and step in wherever technical depth, velocity, or clarity is needed most.. Responsibilities . . Serve as a hands-on engineering leader embedded in the Office of the CTO, supporting high-impact technical initiatives across the company. . Design, architect, and write high-performance, scalable code across systems—from backend infrastructure to security layers and integration workflows. . Build and deliver technical proofs of concept, prototypes, and reference implementations for strategic projects. . Drive architectural reviews and influence design decisions across engineering domains. . Identify, triage, and lead solutions for bottlenecks in reliability, performance, observability, and security. . Lead strategic R&D workstreams including platform modernization, automation tooling, DevSecOps pipelines, and secure development practices. . Serve as a technical representative in executive meetings, engineering leadership syncs, and board briefings. . Evaluate and recommend technologies, vendors, or tools to improve platform scalability, developer velocity, or system security. . Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure alignment on long-term technical strategy, roadmap planning, and cross-functional deliverables. . Provide mentorship and guidance to technical leads and senior engineers across the organization. . Participate in post-incident reviews, architectural assessments, and engineering hiring efforts. . . 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with expertise in building secure, scalable, and resilient systems. . Deep hands-on coding ability across multiple languages (e.g., Java, C++, Python, React, or similar) and environments (cloud-native, backend services, distributed systems). . Strong architectural experience with system design, API strategy, infrastructure, and security. . Proven track record of technical leadership in complex, high-scale environments (e.g., infrastructure, security, platform, dev tools). . Strong experience with AWS cloud services and modern CI/CD workflows. . Familiarity with secrets management, privileged access management, or cybersecurity architecture is highly preferred. . Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field—or equivalent hands-on experience. . Outstanding communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and align teams at all levels of the organization. . Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a high degree of autonomy and responsibility. . Company Location: United States.
