We are currently looking for a Program Director, Western States in the United States.. This role provides strategic leadership and oversight for regional programs in the Western States, primarily California, with a focus on climate, energy, and environmental initiatives. The Program Director will guide a diverse team, develop and implement integrated strategies, and ensure alignment with organizational goals. Acting as a key regional spokesperson, this position cultivates partnerships with local stakeholders, policymakers, and communities to advance impactful programs. Accountabilities. The Program Director will be responsible for:. . Leading and managing the Western States team, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and a positive work environment.. . Developing and executing integrated program and campaign strategies aligned with annual work plans.. . Overseeing program budgets, resource allocation, reporting, and operational planning.. . Representing the organization to boards, advisory councils, donors, and key stakeholders.. . Maintaining knowledge of climate, energy, transportation, agriculture, water, and related policy initiatives in the Western States.. . Cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with government officials, NGOs, academic institutions, and community partners.. . Collaborating across organizational departments to scale impact and share best practices.. . Serving as a spokesperson and engaging in visibility-building efforts to communicate program successes and priorities.. . . Candidates should have:. . 10–15 years of relevant experience, including substantial experience in California policy and political arenas.. . Strong technical and/or policy expertise in energy, climate, or related environmental disciplines.. . Demonstrated experience in policy development, program management, and academic or research-based work.. . Experience with fundraising and cultivating support from foundations and major donors is a plus.. . Inclusive leadership and management skills with the ability to mentor and empower staff.. . Exceptional communication, interpersonal, project management, and budgeting skills.. . Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience/training.. . Willingness to travel as needed to represent regional programs.. . .
