This role offers the opportunity to lead the technical vision and execution for a groundbreaking literacy platform aimed at K–2 students. You will guide a lean, cross-functional team in developing and scaling a classroom-ready product that combines research-based reading instruction with advanced technologies like automatic speech recognition. The position involves architecting systems from the ground up, integrating AI-powered capabilities, and ensuring the platform performs reliably in diverse educational environments. You will collaborate closely with product, design, and instructional teams to translate educational goals into scalable technical solutions. This is an ideal role for a hands-on engineering leader passionate about EdTech, inclusion, and building impactful tools for students and educators.. . Accountabilities. . Set the technical direction, leading system architecture decisions that balance scalability, performance, and maintainability.. . Manage the engineering roadmap across backend infrastructure, instructional logic, and speech-powered functionality.. . Lead cross-functional delivery, translating instructional and product goals into technical systems.. . Integrate and optimize AI and speech recognition tools to enhance the learning experience for diverse students.. . Ensure platform reliability in real-world classroom environments, including handling noise, dialect variation, and accessibility challenges.. . Design data systems and analytics pipelines to provide actionable insights on student performance and instructional efficacy.. . Recruit, mentor, and grow a high-performing engineering team while fostering an inclusive and innovative technical culture.. . . 8+ years of software engineering experience, including system architecture, backend development, and cloud infrastructure.. . Proven track record of leading cross-functional technical execution and aligning engineering decisions with product vision.. . Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), backend frameworks (Node.js, MongoDB), and CI/CD pipelines.. . Familiarity with secure and compliant systems, especially around student data privacy (FERPA, COPPA).. . Experience with Agile methodologies, sprint planning, and iterative development processes.. . Strong commitment to user-centered design, inclusive technology, and measurable educational impact.. .
