Senior Legal Counsel, Legal Manager, Head of Legal, Compliance Manager, Risk & Governance Lead, or Contracts Manager. .. Key Responsibilities. Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to business stakeholders and/or clients across operational and strategic matters . Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and legal documents (e.g., commercial agreements, supplier/customer contracts, NDAs, service level agreements, leases) . Support matters across corporate/commercial, employment, regulatory, disputes, compliance, governance, procurement, property, or advisory workstreams (aligned to experience) . Assist with legal risk assessments and recommend fit-for-purpose mitigations to protect the organisation’s interests . Manage external attorneys, advocates, and specialist advisors as required, including budgets, timelines, and matter strategy . Support dispute management, including pre-litigation correspondence, document preparation, settlement discussions, and litigation oversight where applicable . Contribute to compliance programmes, internal controls, and policy development, including monitoring regulatory changes and advising on implementation . Maintain accurate legal records, contract repositories, and matter documentation, ensuring confidentiality and appropriate information handling . Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., HR, Finance, Procurement, Operations) to improve legal processes and decision-making . Support governance processes, including board and committee documentation where relevant . Mentor junior colleagues and uphold consistent professional standards and quality. Qualifications (role-dependent):. . LLB (or equivalent) is typically required for legal practitioner roles . Admission as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa (or relevant practising status) is advantageous for certain roles . For contracts, compliance, legal operations, or specialist roles: relevant degree/qualification with substantial legal experience may be considered . . Experience:. Typically . 5–12+ years. of progressive legal experience (in-house and/or practice), aligned to mid–senior level scope . Demonstrated capability in one or more areas such as commercial contracting, corporate governance, employment relations, regulatory compliance, disputes, procurement, property, or risk . Strong drafting, negotiation, stakeholder management, and sound judgement in managing legal and commercial risk . Familiarity with common legal tools and systems (where relevant), including . document management, contract lifecycle management (CLM), matter management, and Microsoft 365. . . Language:.
