We are seeking an experienced and security-driven Cyber Security Engineer to support a mission-critical federal credentialing system within a large healthcare IT modernization program. This role will focus on safeguarding cloud-hosted systems, ensuring compliance with federal security frameworks, and driving the secure design and operation of enterprise applications. Working alongside DevSecOps, cloud, and infrastructure teams, you will implement robust security controls, manage vulnerabilities, and support Authorization to Operate (ATO) processes. This is a fully remote opportunity where you will have a direct impact on protecting sensitive data and improving security posture in a high-stakes environment serving millions of users.. . Accountabilities. . Implement and maintain security controls in alignment with VA Handbook 6500 and NIST 800-53 standards.. . Develop and maintain ATO documentation, including System Security Plans (SSP), Security Assessment Reports (SAR), and POA&Ms.. . Conduct vulnerability scans, analyze findings, and drive remediation efforts with technical teams.. . Collaborate with DevSecOps teams to embed security practices into CI/CD pipelines.. . Monitor logs and alerts to detect, investigate, and respond to security incidents.. . Ensure compliance with Section 508, privacy regulations, and data protection standards.. . Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and change control boards to enhance system security.. . Support reporting and continuous monitoring activities for cybersecurity stakeholders.. . Maintain documentation for system configurations, incident response, and contingency planning.. . . . Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field.. . 8+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering or information assurance.. .
