Liferaft is seeking an experienced and strategic VP, Finance. to lead and scale our financial operations during a pivotal period of growth. This leadership role is hybrid in Halifax, NS, or fully remote from Toronto, Ontario.. Reporting to our CFO, with a dotted line to the CEO, the VP Finance will be a core member of the Senior Leadership Team and a trusted partner to both senior and cross-functional leaders. You’ll be responsible for delivering accurate financial insights, strengthening operational discipline, and ensuring the company’s fiscal health as we scale.. This role requires a hands-on leader who excels at financial modeling, budgeting, and SaaS metrics, while also guiding the Finance team through best-in-class processes in FP&A, compliance, tax, and reporting. You’ll play a critical role in executive decision-making, board reporting, and investor relations, helping Liferaft navigate complexity by powering clear, strategic decisions with dynamic forecasting and a deep understanding of the numbers.. What you do as the VP, Finance at Liferaft. . Provide oversight and management of the Company’s Finance operations and team. . Proactively share insight to department heads and the Executive Team on the operations of the business. . Actively participate as a contributing member of the Company’s leadership.. . Create accurate and insightful reporting of historical financials and forecasts, including for presentation to the Board of Directors. . Support the reporting requirements of our primary investors. . Maintain a financial model that strives to accurately predict the influence of management decisions and the operating plan on the financial metrics of the company. . Identify opportunities to improve key metrics, including revenue, gross margin, operating margin, and cash burn. . Provide department heads with Actuals vs. Budget reports within consistent and quick timeframes after the month-end. . Implement a discipline around financial standards and controls and ensure adherence by leadership team. . Support the annual strategic planning process and lead the budget process. . Ensure the company is tax compliant within all jurisdictions in which it operates and among all applicable tax categories including Sales Tax, Income Tax, Payroll Tax, etc.. . Oversee year-end financial preparation and audit process. . Provide coaching, mentorship, and development support to Finance team members, and assess future resourcing needs to scale with the business. .  . What You Need to Get the Job Done. Education. . Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics (required). . CPA, CA, or CMA designation (strongly preferred). . MBA or Master’s in Finance or Accounting (optional, but preferred at this level). . Experience. . 10–15+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting required. . 5–7+ years of senior leadership experience required (e.g., Controller, Director of Finance, or VP Finance). . Direct experience at a growth-stage SaaS or technology company (required). . Experience with $10M–$50M ARR companies, ideally scaling toward $30 - 50M or a successful exit (highly preferred). . . SaaS-specific finance leadership required, including:. . . Subscription billing models and revenue recognition. . SaaS metrics: ARR/MRR, CAC, LTV, churn, burn multiple. . Usage-based pricing models and deferred revenue treatment. . . Financial Operations & Leadership. . Proven ability to lead and scale finance and accounting teams, including FP&A, payroll, AR/AP, tax, and audit. . Hands-on experience implementing or optimizing financial systems and internal controls. . Strategic Finance & Board-Level Reporting. . Strong track record of building robust FP&A functions and driving strategic planning cycles. . Capable of preparing Board-level reporting, investor-ready financial packages, and scenario-based forecasting. . Compliance & Controls. . Deep familiarity with:. . . Canadian GAAP and multi-jurisdictional tax compliance (US sales tax). . Sales tax, income tax, payroll tax, and software-related tax issues (e.g., SaaS sales tax across states). . Managing external audits and liaising with audit/tax firms. . SR&ED and IRAP tax credit and grant programs. . . Data, Metrics, and Forecasting. . Fluent in financial modeling, ideally in Excel or modern FP&A tools. . Comfortable designing KPI dashboards for SaaS metrics and department-level reporting. . Able to assess and forecast cash burn, revenue growth, and gross/operating margin trends. . Leadership and Collaboration. . Demonstrated success as a business partner to department leaders (especially Sales, Marketing, Engineering). . Trusted thought partner to the CEO and CFO, able to challenge assumptions with data. . Experience supporting investor relations and fundraising (e.g., Series B/C/D), including due diligence and reporting to VCs. . Tooling and Systems. . Familiarity with QuickBooks. . Experience with Salesforce and/or HubSpot, or other CRM tools to support commission accruals and reporting. . Exposure to HRIS and payroll systems. . Use of tools for sales tax compliance. .
