Manager of Nursing Professional Development at Association of Women's Health, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses. OUR PURPOSE. The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. Our mission is to empower and support nurses caring for women, newborns, and their families through research, education, and advocacy.. POSITION SUMMARY. The AWHONN Manager of Nursing Professional Development (NPD) functions as a Nurse Planner for the organization and leads education activities that meet the learning needs of a diverse group of nurses. The Manager of NPD participates in assessing organizational educational needs and recommends product development priorities based on those needs. The Manager of NPD facilitates all processes related to planning, implementing, and evaluating AWHONN educational products and develops a range of educational activities, from live conferences and events to virtual and enduring products. The Manager of NPD assists the Director of Accreditation and NPD with CNE tracking and reporting, and maintains compliance with the ANCC Accreditation criteria.. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES. Accreditation/Provider-Approver Unit/Continuing Nursing Education. • Serves as a resource for CNE activities for the organization.. • Assists the Accredited Provider Program Director in tracking and documenting requirements for the AWHONN Accredited Provider Unit.. • Leads all aspects of planning, implementation, evaluation, and record keeping of specific provider directed, provider-paced, live, enduring, or blended education activities.. • Ensures integration of all appropriate educational design principles and processes that are consistent with requirements of the ANCC accreditation program and Standard of Integrity and Independence.. • Upholds that women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal CNE activities/products are built upon the educational and experiential bases of the professional RN for the enhancement of practice, education, leadership, research, or theory development, to the end of improving the health of the population the nurses serve.. • Assists the Director of Accreditation and NPD with orientation and mentoring of new Nurse Planners to the AWHONN Provider Unit.. • Periodically collaborates with the AWHONN Education Advisory Committee to develop and conduct a comprehensive educational needs assessment of members.. • Assesses learning gap for continuing education offerings through needs assessment surveys.. • Conducts environmental scans of programming content of women’s health, obstetric, and neonatal specialties, as well as other healthcare associations, and collaborates with internal stakeholders for member value proposition planning.. • Implements quality improvement measures as necessary to enhance educational program processes and member satisfaction.. • Contributes to the preparation of the annual ANCC report for the Provider-Approver Unit to achieve and maintain accreditation with distinction status.. • Reviews and contributes to the ANCC application and self-study for the Provider-Approver Unit to achieve and maintain Accreditation with Distinction status.. • Collaborates with the Director of Accreditation on department budget(s) as assigned. Educational Planning for AWHONN live events. • Contributes to the final review process of AWHONN convention podium and poster presentations and recommends improvements for the advancement of continuing education and accreditation perspectives.. • Collaborates with the Director of Accreditation in planning, implementing, and evaluating the annual AWHONN conference educational program.. • Serves as Nurse planner for live events other than the AWHONN Convention. • Leads all aspects of planning, implementation, evaluation, and record keeping for additional live and/or virtual CNE events as assigned (i.e. AWHONN on the Hill, AWHONN Summit, and Joint Conference development). • Develops budget and workplan for additional live or virtual AWHONN events, and incorporates innovative technology or resources to impact a wider audience. • Reviews all content for compliance with ANCC Accreditation criteria. • Collaborates with meeting planners to ensure high quality event experience. • Travel may be indicated to meet the business needs of AWHONN. Works onsite in any capacity needed to implement a successful AWHONN event experience for all participants.. Product Development. • Participates in assessing educational needs of AWHONN members and groups to improve the care of childbearing people, women, and newborns.. • Recommends product development priorities based on comprehensive educational needs assessment results.. • Participates in educational content development based upon strategic priorities.. • Collaborate with the Sr. Director of the Library and Archives to ensure cataloging of all existing and future resources.. • Maintains expertise in educational design and adult learning theories, assumes responsibility for implementing accreditation program criteria for selected educational activities.. • Participates in evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of AWHONN programs, products, and services.. LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS. Provides ongoing professional mentoring, supports the expansion of learning, and provides tools to build knowledge, skills, and growth capacity. Serves as an educational resource for new and current staff. Promotes a positive work environment for all staff and collaborates with the leadership team.. QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS. • Master’s degree: either bachelor or graduate degree must be in nursing. Graduate Degree in Education is a plus.. • Current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse. • Nursing experience in women’s health, obstetric or neonatal nursing, required. • Nurse Planner experience required, including clinical and/or adult education experience.. • Accredited Provider Unit experience required. • Specialty certification in Nursing Professional Development strongly preferred.. • Demonstrated history of working independently and creatively.. • Highly effective verbal, written, communication, and interpersonal skills.. • Highly developed coordination and management skills with multiple projects and timelines. Project management skills a plus.. • Strong experience working as part of collaborative teams as a member and/or leader.. • Experience in innovative education program design, implementation, and evaluation in an association is highly desirable.. • Demonstrated computer skills required, preferably using Microsoft Office Suite. • Demonstrated skill in video conferencing..
