About the job. This position is needed to manage Twilio’s compliance with U.S. export control and sanctions laws and regulations. . The successful candidate will be responsible for furthering Twilio’s commitment to compliance with U.S. export control and sanctions laws and regulations. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of export and sanctions laws, regulations, and administrative agency practice including, but not limited to, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) economic sanctions and the Bureau of Industry and Security’s Export Administration Regulations (EAR).  The successful candidate will possess high integrity and demonstrate a consistent track record of pragmatic cross-functional collaboration and sound legal advice across our organization.  . Responsibilities. In this role, you’ll:. Provide legal advice on sanctions and export controls to business operations, senior business leaders, and other key stakeholders on a broad range of sanction and export related regulatory, commercial, and diligence matters.. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support, further develop, and implement Twilio's sanctions compliance program. . Participate in the implementation and enforcement of a governance framework, including defining and implementing control processes, and testing/monitoring plans to ensure operations remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.. Monitoring: Participate in and lead teams of compliance and business colleagues to ensure ongoing and relevant monitoring of sanctions and export compliance risks are assessed to identify potential areas of improvement and developing/implementing mitigation strategies, such as customized compliance programs, policies, processes, and other corrective actions.. Proactively identify and assess potential risks, and work with legal, policy, and operational teams to develop risk mitigation approaches and drive cross-functional implementation.. Have a strong commitment to integrity and a solution-driven approach with a strong business partner mindset.. Operate independently and confidently manage multiple internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, to implement pragmatic solutions. . Qualifications . Required:. A law degree from a U.S. accredited law school and be an active member in good standing with a state bar association that will be their principal work location is required.. A minimum of 7 years legal experience working as an attorney on trade matters in a government agency, law firm, or in-house legal department in an international environment. Expertise in export controls and sanctions, including the OFAC and EAR regulations.. A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.. Effectively identify and articulate implications up and downstream, taking action or escalating as appropriate.. Demonstrate an ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and prioritize workflow with minimal supervision.. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. . Your team-first attitude enables you to easily and effectively work across teams and cross-functionally.. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT), GSuite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), and Project Management software (Jira, Asana, AirTable (or similar), RAID logs, budgeting systems).. Desired:. Experience working in both at an in-house legal department and at a law firm in sanctions and trade compliance. . Experience in a communications / telecom adjacent space is a plus but not required. . Location. This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas. . Travel . The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only.. The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows:. Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C. : $184,500 - $230,700. Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside of the San Francisco Bay area): $195,300 - $244,200. Based in the San Francisco Bay area, California: $217,000 - $271,300. This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan. All roles are generally eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave.. The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location..  .
